Gerhardus married Johanna Schroers on 11 February 1793 in Bocholt. The coat of arms of the town is shown here.
Between 1794 and 1806, Gerhardus and Johanna had five children, including Henrica Aleida van Oepen.
Their children were born in Stenern, so they lived there during that period.
