Bavarian state flag

Johann was the youngest of the two known children of Johann Döppmann and Cunigunda Schartig. He was baptized on 27 January 1827 in Lohndorf, Bavaria. The flag shown here is the Bavarian state flag.

Johann married Cunigunda Zenk on 25 January 1847 in Lohndorf.

Between 1849 and 1869, Johann and Cunigunda had eleven children, including Maria Margaretha (Margaret) Deppman.

The family lived in Tiefenellern, where Johann worked as a farmer.

Johann emigrated "without permission" in 1869. The following year, he resigned his Bavarian citizenship and petitioned to have his wife and children join him in America. After payment of outstanding debts and taxes, this permission was granted in Bamberg in July 1870.

It is unknown where in Lucas County Johann and his family lived, although the family probably attended St. Mary's church, since his death is recorded there.

Johann died at age 48; the cause of death appears as "unknown" in the St. Mary's records. He was buried on in St. Mary's (later, Mt. Carmel) cemetery in Toledo. His youngest son, John, was apparently interred in an adjacent grave in 1889.
