Barbara was born in Ehrl. Her parentage is somewhat uncertain: transcripts of her children's births from the archive of the Archbishopric of Bamberg indicate that Barbara's maiden name was Dumbrof. However, her marriage record gives her maiden name both as "Roth" and as "Groh," and there are question marks after both names. This record lists her parents' names as Johann Roth and Maria Kunig. Krieg.

Barbara married Georg Zenk on 21 April 1823 in Scheßlitz, Bavaria. The coat of arms of Bamberg is shown here.

Between 1824 and 1844, Georg and Barbara had thirteen children:

  1. Cunigunda (23 Aug 1824 - bef 1888)
    She married Johann Deppman (1827-1875)
  2. {unnamed} (13 Nov 1825)
    This child was stillborn.
  3. Margaretha (b. 13 Feb 1827)
  4. Pancraz (20 Sep 1828 - 15 Jan 1834)
He died at the age of five.
  5. Johann (8 Mar 1830 - 7 Aug 1837)
He died at the age of seven.
  6. Johann (b. 24 Sep 1831)
  7. Maria (b. 5 Oct 1833)
  8. Michael (23 Oct 1835 - 19 Jul 1865)
  9. Pancraz (b. 27 Nov 1837)
  10. Johann (b. 16 Apr 1839)
  11. Josef Johann (b. 26 Sep 1840)
    He married Maria Anna Groh
  12. Maria Anna (b. 17 Feb 1842)
    She married Josef Hennemann
  13. Johann (b. 5 Oct 1844)
    He married Maria Cunigunda Fleischmann

All their children were born in Schweisdorf, so the family lived there during that period.
