Mary Meiring

Mary was the third of ten surviving children of Francis Xavier Keeler and (Anna) Mary Fein. There is some uncertainty about her year of birth, which appears as 1878 on her death certificate. However, her funeral card, information from her sister Blanche, and Mary's baptismal record at Sacred Heart in Bethlehem, Ohio all provide a year of 1879.

In the mid-1880s, her family moved to Gibson township, Mercer County (west central Ohio). Around 1892, the family moved to Toledo, Ohio.

Mary married Frank Meiring on 22 November 1898. The picture shown here is from that day.

Between 1900 and 1914, Frank and Mary had eight children:

  1. Anna Mary (30 Mar 1900 - 27 Nov 1968)
She married Wendle Joseph Langenderfer (1898-1977)
  2. Hilda Elizabeth (29 Jul 1901 - 17 Sep 1988)
She married Leo Hassen Sr. (1895-1964)
  3. Loretta Magdalen (Lorett) (9 Feb 1904 - 8 Nov 1993)
She married Louis Edward (Scoot) Hassen (1892-1935)
She remarried to Walter Henry (Wally) Linnenkugel (1897-1977)
  4. Gertrude Helen (Gert) (24 Sep 1905 - 11 Jul 2000)
She married Lawrence Joseph (Bud) Laux (1902-1987)
  5. Catherine Constance (Connie) (24 Apr 1907 - 20 Apr 1984)
    She married Patrick F. McManus
  6. Leona Veronica (20 Sep 1909 - 22 Jun 1998)
She married Lawrence Frank (Noe) Kreuz (1903-1972)
  7. Charles Francis (Chuck) (22 Sep 1912 - 20 Dec 1998)
He married Helen T. Wheeler (1913-1994)
Chuck worked as a farmer, an employee of Electric AutoLite, and an inspector for Doehler-Jarvis.
  8. Irene Grace (Dolly) (10 Nov 1914 - 28 Aug 1999)
She married Edward Joseph (Ed) Glynn (1912-1986)

The family lived on Central Avenue, where her husband worked as a truck farmer.

Mary died at age 38 from "chronic intestinal pancreatitus" [inflammation of the pancreas]. A contributing factor was an obstruction caused by gallstones, which had afflicted her for ten years.

She was survived by her husband, seven daughters, one son, father and mother, six brothers and three sisters. Mary was buried on 11 April 1917 in Calvary cemetery in Toledo.
